It’s a present for everyone, for us, that the Sheikh is visiting us — Mawlana Sheikh Muhammad — that the friend of God is visiting and gathering the brothers and sisters. We must be very thankful. We know, we should know … but there is a blessing for everyone. Everywhere he is going, everything he is visiting, everything he is looking at gets blessings. And he looks at everything, mashallah. Because it is Sunnah. It‘s Sunnah to look at the creation, what Allah created, all kinds of things, and happenings, no? You can see.
He was especially happy about Holland also. Someone told me, he was happy about Holland. Three years ago it was different — I think three years, no? I was called by my real name. Somebody said to me: “Du Schweinehund.” Thank you very much, very true. He said the truth. Next to that person, other people were fighting each other also. Everyone was fighting; ladies fighting, beating themselves with handbags and crying around. We were sitting on the sofa. And the Sheikh was sitting at the table also, a few meters away — eating ice cream. Everyone was fighting, the whole room, but the Sheikh he was eating ice cream, and there was nothing more important than that ice cream! And he was very happy with this ice cream.
And we were sweating, looking what is coming next, looking for weapons. Then the Sheikh finally said: „If you want to be Sheikh, you are Sheikh!“ — he said to someone. And then he went up for wudu, and he gave me the rest of his ice cream, to make me (calm).
Some situations must happen. It must happen because what is inside oneself must appear. If it is not appearing, you cannot fight it, you cannot correct it. And you think also, you are very okay, you are … mashallah, you know?
There is 80,000 veils between you and your vision of the true Iman, for our Lord. We are veiled — that is what the Sheikh said, Sheikh Abdullah Daghestani. 80,000 veils, 80,000 bad character traits. And you have to know them. What is the most dangerous thing? That you don’t know them. And you think you are all right. Why? Because you don’t see it. And you are thinking, you are okay.
And then you ask: „Why this happens to me? Why he speaks to me like this? Why he looks to me like that. What is happening? And I am such a great one. Nobody can be like me. How can anyone meet me on my level? No…” You know? What the ego likes too much. That is the reason that this thing must come out, and it is coming out.
This is a Tariqah with a true sheikh. A true sheikh is leading a true Tariqat. True means functioning. The water of Iman is coming, secrets are coming, divinely impacts coming, which are working for this. And it is not always nice because we have to see our bad things — they‘re coming out. If they’re not coming out, how you get better, how you progress on your way?
There was one man in the time of Abdul Qadir Jilani, and he was looking for his murshid. He understood that he needs a real murshid for education for his ego, for his self, to be successful in the way and to be nothing in the end — and through this to come into union with his Sheikh, with Prophet ﷺ and with Allah Almighty. And he was asking Abdul Qadir Jilani on his traveling: „Do you have advice for me, oh Sheikh?“
And the Sheikh said: „Yes, you are going. Go on with your traveling. You have good intention, pure niyyah. You go from dergah to dergah, zawiya to zawiya, and you look … until you find him. And my advice is: when you enter a dergah and you see the Sheikh and he is sitting there in his corner, in his place, very clearly, all the murids around him, everyone looking down, with adab, not saying anything, only speaking when the Sheikh asks them … you know, everything is perfect, they give you food, hospitality is perfect … then you kiss the hand of the Sheikh and ask permission to travel on.“
„Inshallah, you will find a dergah one day, maybe, and you enter and everything is like a circus. It is totally up and down. Everyone looks like the Sheikh. Everyone wears turbans, jubbas, different things they are saying, talking and it is loud, and there is crying — this, that, and you don’t know what‘s going on. Even you cannot find the Sheikh. The Sheikh is in the room but you don’t know who he is, because everyone is acting like the Sheikh.
In that case, my son, you must be patient. Find the Sheikh — finally you will find him, and you must look for him, they will show you, inshallah — then you go tot hat Sheikh, kiss his hand, ask permission to stay and to be accepted as his disciple, to get the education of the Nafs.“
That is story. It gives the picture. It must come out. If I hear that story, I think immediately of Mawlana Sheikh Nazim, what happened in his presence — unbelievable things you cannot imagine. Somebody making wudu in the morning, another one coming with a shovel, he hit him on the head, so that he is bleeding like I-don’t-know-what. And the’re running tot he Sheikh: „Sheikh, this man is diying. Come quickly!“ The Sheikh had to come down and he puts his finger and he said something, and he stopped the blood. So many kinds of things happening in the presence of the Sheikh. Even in Grandsheikhs dergah in Damascus, they were fighting with knives. And Grandsheikh Abdullah Daghestani he was laughing. He found it so funny that he was laughing.
What ist he meaning? We have to see the wrong things, and we must be thankful, if they come out, or if we somehow notice them. The Sheikh is helping you, showing you. He knows from the beginning, but he doesn’t show you everything. If he shows you in one moment, you die immediately. If you see your ego fully, in one moment, your heart is finished, and you are finished … janazah. So that is the way of Islam, the way of mercy. Step by step, he gives you a chance, there is mercy. You have that, but you may change it. Then you go on.
Step by step. This is the mercy. You ask forgiveness, anew and again and again. Thousand times, ten thousand times you make the same mistakes. It must be like that. It cannot be hidden. It must be known and corrected — our different bad qualities. You have to cut them. You must cut the veils. All of them, until the last veil. If you had 79,999 and you cut them, one will be left until death because it is the veil of life. The veil of life, of dunya, material life. That ist he last veil to be cut.
„You just follow in the train. Trust in the driver, don’t wreck your brain.
Wait and see, he knows the goal. Your eyes will be opened at the stations of your soul.
No matter what you are doing there, they are with you everywhere.
Walking, talking, eating — the rhythms of the train are beating.“
You are in the train. It is enough to be in the train of the friends, of the saints. Bu you must be in the train.
„Every day, to keep your balance, you must be in deep remembrance.
Remember that you are in their train. That relieves your pain.“
This are lessons from Sheikh Nazim. We make music from his lessons. May Allah help us, inshallah.
And Mawlana Sheikh Nazim left us the perfect one, mashallah. He ist he 41st of the Golden Silsilah and he will educate us, according to our time, according to the situation, as it is now. And it is going on, mashallah. May he help us, inshallah, to be with him, and in the jama‘at.
You need the jama‘at, oh brother, oh sister. Don’t say: „I am alone. And they are like this, like that …“ That is the story that I told. Of cause we are like this, like that. We are weak. We are mad. We are crazy. We are everything. 80,000 bad qualities. Yes! And you, oh brother, you are alone. Are you better than us? Are you looking down on us? Okay, you can look down on us, but for you it is not good. You cannot do it alone. We have to do it together, not alone. Alone you can’t do. Alone, shaytan takes you.
In this time, if you visit a brother just for the sake of Allah … You say: „Salam alaykum, my brother, we are on the way. May Allah keep us on the way. Allah may bless you. Salam alykum.“ 5 minutes you visit a brother. That is in this time, as if you visit the Prophet ﷺ himself, in his time. Same result. Same baraka. He didn’t say: „Go away and curse them“ … „They are very bad. I have nothing to do with them.“
May Allah protect our hearts, inshallah and keep us on this beautiful way, as Mawlana Sheikh Muhammad is teaching us.
