Sohbat Sheikh Hassan Dyck
Thursday 4th June 2026, Osmanische Herberge
The brother is asking, „What is the best way to express your love towards Allah, towards Prophet, sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, towards brothers and sisters?“
You cannot say, „ … in a special way … “
If you have love in your heart — we start with Allah Almighty. If you have love for Allah Almighty, you are doing what He is saying. If we have love, the best way to express the love towards Allah Almighty is to listen and follow His orders, His recommendations, and the knowledge, which He likes to give to us. According to that, you may do. So that He is pleased.
Because if you love someone, you want to make him pleased with you. That is the same with the Prophet ﷺ. You love him and you are doing as he is doing, and as he was doing, and by this you may show love to him ﷺ. And many more things … like loving his ﷺ family, loving his companions, loving him and everything what he touched, and what he was in touch with. Everything what he ﷺ got in touch with, in this world, you love also.
Because everything loved him ﷺ. Even plants loved him. Animals loved him, wild animals. Everyone loved him. The whole creation loves him. Universes love him. So you love also — for this reason. Out of love for Allah Almighty, out of love for Prophet ﷺ you love everything. Even the whole creation from Allah Almighty you must love. For the love of Allah.
You cannot say, „I don’t love this“. He created it. He created. He’s The Creator. If He creates something, who are you to say, „Yes, but this I don’t love.“
Or: „I’m not agreeing with it. I don’t agree. Because we have human rights (Sheikh Hassan raises his index finger with a mocking smile). Look in New York, there is the House of Human Rights — United Nations.“
United under whom? Under Shaytan. (The Sheikh chuckles.) They’re the United Nations and their head is Shaytan.
And you are loving Allah Almighty and the Prophet ﷺ; and you are agreeing. You must agree. When it is difficult to agree with something, because it is difficult, you must be patient. Allah is saying: „Be patient“. And He is saying: „I love the patience. And I love the patient ones. My love is with them.“ (The Sheikh chuckles contentedly.)
How easy to get the love of Allah. Only you must be patient.
If you want more — and you should always strive for more — then you must be thankful. I don’t know this level. They are saying this. I am giving coffee talk. But they are saying that there’s a level from people where they have reached a certain degree of iman at which they are thankful. Also for difficult things — for sickness, wars, poorness, very difficult things – they are thankful.
They’re also thankful for this. Because they know. They reached a certain degree of knowledge. So they are thankful. Because they know that everything that is difficult and heavy … the solution to it will bring peace, wideness, and openness (Sheikh Hassan opens his arms.) And love. And easiness. Everything.
This is, what Allah is saying in so many places and occasions.
„Fa inna ma’a al-‘usri yusra“
(Quran 94:5)
(Verily, with hardship comes ease.)
And you have to believe.
What was your question?
M. Salim: You answered it, Sheikh.
Sheikh Hassan: Alhamdulillah. Then … you’re expressing your love by doing good — for everyone and everything, every time and everywhere. For human beings.
There’s also a special love for brothers and sisters. There is so many special loves. Between brothers and sisters, there is a special love. If they love each other for the sake of Allah — one brother loves another brother for the sake of Allah — on the Day of Judgment he will have a light, they are saying, that even the prophets will be envious of.
What is that light?
They say: „We are prophets. What is this light? Who is that one? Are there other prophets?“
And then they are saying: „No, no! This is brothers and sisters from the Ummati Muhammadi. They loved each other for the sake of Allah.“ (laughs happily)
Especially, you are showing love for Allah Almighty, the Sheikh, or the Prophet ﷺ by doing good things to them. Out of love. You see?
Shamsuddin: Is sincerity a must in all this love?
Sheikh Hassan: Sincerity must be.
Shamsuddin: Can the love stay without sincerity?
Sheikh Hassan: Love without sincerity is a weak love — it’s very weak. It is also a kind of love, but it is not … it’s coming and going, and it’s not real love. That is why his question is good, because the real love proves sincerity also.
Real love. Real love. Not changing.
It needs sincerity — that is true. These things, they need the Sheikh. Because the Sheikh is a lover. He loves unconditionally, without conditions. And he is sincere. So you take this love, and this sincerity, and everything that belonging to it, from him. He is the one, who will give it to you. You can say: „Allah gives. Prophet ﷺ gives.“
But the Sheikh is the one who is directly there for you to ask him. To make rabita — rabitatu sharifa — in your heart, and ask him this kind of questions …
And inshallah he will accept. He will do the connection when you’re asking, and then he will open it, inshallah. And you must not think … they always open for you. It doesn’t matter what you did, or what you are guilty of, or how big your sins are, and how you turned away from him … Because you turned away. So you come back.
It is an order, actually, from Shahu Naqshbandi al-Uwaysi al-Bukhari. If you come back to your master, to take connection, it’s forbidden to think that the door is closed — that they’re closing the door, because what you did is too much. They say it is forbidden. You must know, that the door is always open.
It’s one of these strong rules from Shahu Naqshbandi. You can read it; it is in the book. [The Naqshbandi Sufi Way by Sheikh Hisham Kabbani]
And you must never think that you did anything. That is also one of the rules: You cannot say, „I did this.
Even the Prophet ﷺ … when he was doing the shooting in the war, They said to him ﷺ: „You didn’t shoot. We shot.“
This is very important. It is one of the strong rules in the Naqshbandi Tariqat, that you must never say about anything, „I did this. It was me who did this.“ No, never.
Shamsuddin: There’s light always around us.
Sheikh Hassan: Is there light around us?
Shamsuddin: I think so.
Sheikh Hassan: Yeah, she turned on the light. Yeah, there’s light (raising his head to the ceiling and looking around.)
Around us and in us. We are praying for that. There’s a famous prayer:
„Give light to me, oh Allah,
inside and above me,
down from me, right from me,
left from me, in front of me, in the back of me.“
But that is something else. What would you say?
It is important. If you know this, it is very good because then you are thankful. But if you forget it, you get darkness. Most people they are in darkness; they are in darkness.
May we be we in light. I hope that we are in light; to be in light. For all my brothers — may they go in enlightenment, and in sweetness, and in thankfulness, and in happiness, here and hereafter, inshallah.
Not to be in the trap of Shaytan. Not to be in the trap of nafs al-amarra bi-su, not to be in the trap of dunya. Not to be in the trap of desires — hawa — but to be with Allah Almighty, and with the Prophet ﷺ, and with the Sheikh, and with believers.
May we be with believers, inshallah.
