Oh you gathered believers!
May Allah ﷻ bless you, bless us all, inshallah, on this holy Juma, in this holy hour. It is a special blessed day from Allah jalla jalaluhu, and we seek these special gifts from Allah ﷻ, from our Creator, and He has given us knowledge through His Prophets. He has sent prophets, sent saints, sent servants of God to awaken us from the sleep in which we are. In this world we are in a kind of sleep state — not awake, a sleep state — we are covered.
The Muslims, some Muslims, insult each other and say: „Oh you Kafir! Ya Kafir!“ First of all, they don’t know who is Kafir and who is not Kafir, that’s the very first thing. They don’t know what is between you and Allah ﷻ, between every servant and between Allah ﷻ — you don’t know it at all. Even non-Muslims… We should be careful, even with people who don’t call themselves Muslims, where you don’t know how much they believe in their Creator, or what connection they have to their Creator — you don’t know. Maybe there are a lot of people who don’t call themselves Muslim, but they are better than thousands of Muslims in character, and even better in their hearts, who knows. And we stand there and shout „Ya Kafir! Ya Kafir!“ Not only to other people, but also to other Muslims, „Ya Kafir!“ This is a very bad situation. And if you’re wrong — as has been told to us by the Prophet, sallallahu alayhi wa sallam — if you insult someone with something and you’re… if you’re right, okay, that’s one thing, it’s still not nice, but if you’re wrong, you won’t die until you experience what you insulted them for, until you become like that yourself. We have to be very careful about that. And unfortunately, many Muslims have become very quick with it. And ‘Kafir’…
Alhamdulillah we say Shahada, we say „Ashadu an la ilaha illallah wa ashadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah ﷺ“ — and we want to achieve real Iman, we want to achieve real faith, we want to achieve enlightenment of the heart. And we believe in Allah ﷻ and Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and not just in Prophet Muhammad, because Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself made it a condition, whoever believes in him must also love Jesus, right? And whoever believes in him must also love Moses, must also love Abraham, must love all 124,000 — we say that as a number, about 124,000 prophets who were sent. Over 300 of them are mentioned in the Koran, including Jesus and Moses. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ made this a condition, sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. He said, „Whoever believes in me must also love and accept all other prophets“ — and all prophets, including those from India, there were also prophets. „Wa li kulli qawmin had [13:7].“ The Quran says: „Every people has a guide.“ Every people, every nation — „li kulli qawmin had” — every people. This also means in India that the great names that we know from there were also very great saints or prophets. Some of them on the level of Prophet Salomon, they did similar things — or David. And Prophet Muhammad ﷺ says, „You must believe in all of them , you must accept all of them.“ So says Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and when we say Shahada, „Ashadu an la ilaha illallah wa ashadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah ﷺ,“ we confirm that.
But of course we want — and unfortunately for most it is a wish, but Allah ﷻ grants the wishes, inshallah, if someone really has the intention and goes in that direction — of course we want our hearts to be enlightened. We don’t want to say Shahada and then just keep groping in the dark. Now we have said Shahada, with our mouths, and then we walk normally — like before, don’t change anything – walk through the darkness like before, so to speak. Then we are on the tip of our tongue… we said the Shahada, but in our lives we are „thumma amanu, thumma kafaru, thumma amanu, thumma…“ — sometimes, right? Why else does Prophet ﷺ say: „Al ghadab kufr“, for example. If you give in completely to your anger, that is kufr, darkness, at that moment you are covered, at that moment you are completely covered. There is nothing with Iman, there is nothing with Allah’s ﷻ light, with God’s light.
That means, as long as you do not use your character traits completely for Allah ﷻ and cultivate the good character as the Prophet ﷺ showed us, then you are not yet Mumin — then you are not yet Mumin. Then you’re still covered. And then when we have the intention to go on the path, we are in between. But that’s what a kafir means — it’s covered. Covered by what? Covered by the dunia — we are covered by everything that has to do with the dunia. And we completely forget — most people — where we come from, who is in control of the world, who is in control of you, who determines your fate, where the light comes from inside you — we completely forget all of that. It all comes from God, our Creator, it all comes from Allah ﷻ. The control is with Him. He enlightens you. You just have to ask, you just have to look and ask. Allah ﷻ will give you this, inshallah. He may not give it to you like that, but He will give it to you slowly, slowly, inshallah — as He wants. But the control is with Him, you must know that.
If you don’t believe in Him, if you are not aware, there is Allah ﷻ and you are 100% aware. You are alive, and the Creator Who created you, created your soul, determined your life, determined the whole of life, under whose control the entire universe is — when you know that He sees you and make yourself completely aware of that, then you come into consciousness. And you can give things value, as they are worth. That means you give the dunia the value of what the dunia is worth, how long the dunia lasts. And you give value to Akhira and value to Allah ﷻ as long as Allah ﷻ lasts and Akhira lasts. And what is this short time journey compared to infinity? This is a short journey through time that we are in — short journey, temporary journey in this world. Therefore, give this temporal journey as much value as it should, and give Allah ﷻ as much value as it should, for Allah ﷻ. Then you come out of the state of being covered. Someone wants to argue with you — you know that there is Allah ﷻ. Someone wants to steal a little money from you or has stolen money from you — you know, there is Allah ﷻ. „Oh Allah, what a chance! Someone stole money from me, mashallah!“ What do you say? „Thank you Allah, for this chance, you can write it down directly as sadaqa. And I do sajdah, Ya Allah, look, you even let me do sajdah. And I say: ‘forgive that person immediately’“ — you got a chance to do a good deed, right? And what do people do instead? They’re sharpening their knife: „Oh, someone stole €700 from me, €700, I’m sharpening my knife.“ You are totally covered, completely covered.
There was a big sheikh, they used to wear big turbans, even bigger than — ours have become very, very small these days, very small — they used to be like that because they knew the Baraka from the turban. And then one of the sheikhs sat there and prayed in the mosque, and someone thought to themselves — one of the thieves saw him, and he was praying, the sheikh, really praying — in Sham Sharif — and then the thief said, „There must be gold in there or something, he’s hiding all his stuff there… that’s a real treasure.“ That looked like a great treasure to him, and he got carried away, and he said: „I’ll go there, I’ll steal his turban.“ Then he ran over, tore the turban from his head and ran away. And the Sheikh quickly: „Salam alaykum wa rahmatullah, Salam alaykum wa rahmatullah… YOU CAN HAVE IT, NO PROBLEM… You can have my turban“ – immediately! Not, „Oh my turban,“ or anything… Immediately, „Take it! Whatever’s in there…“ We’re totally caught up in the dunia — who’s right, who owes me, who wronged me… Yahu, leave it all! There is Allah jalla jalaluhu, there is Allah! You must always know that there is Allah ﷻ. You always have to know that you’re going to walk around here for a few more days, sleep here for a few more nights, you’ll meet a few more people — and then you’ll walk out the door again. And then the moment you leave — and everyone who leaves says this — say, „It’s like I just came.“ No one has ever said anything else — „Oh, I had such a long life, it was so endless…“ — no, they say, „I just came, now I have to go again. I just walked in the door, now I have to get out again.“ And that’s why we fight. And for that we risk our Akhira, for that we risk the blessing, for that we risk Allah being dissatisfied with us — we risk everything. Allah ﷻ can enlighten your heart if you want.
We read this hadith from the Prophet ﷺ. He said: „Whoever acts according to what Allah ﷻ has given him in terms of knowledge, whoever acts according to what he knows“ — you already know a lot of things, we all already know very, very many things — „whoever acts according to it, Allah ﷻ will give him even more knowledge.“ He will give him the knowledge of which he does not yet know anything. Everyone wants to have knowledge. But acting according to the knowledge… I don’t know, I see very few of them. There are a few things, for example with the ‘la taghdab’, you can act according to it. Or ‘malayani’, that you don’t get involved in things that don’t concern you, for example, but rather deal with what is important to you — for you and those who are close to you. And Allah ﷻ says that if you act according to what you know, then He will increase your knowledge Also, if you don’t act according to what you know, He will take the knowledge away from you again. It’s like with muscles — when you train, they get bigger, when you no longer use them, they quickly disappear again. Your body says you don’t need it at all. Allah ﷻ also says, „you don’t need the knowledge that I have given you.“ There is also a Quranic verse: „Walladhinah tadaw zadahum hudan…“ — those who follow guidance, Allah ﷻ gives them even more guidance — „…zadahum hudan wa atahum taqwahum [47:17]” — and he gives him this consciousness, this God-consciousness. Those who walk on guidance, Allah ﷻ provides them with this God-consciousness.
Allah ﷻ gives you everything. Allah ﷻ is just waiting to give it to you — but we don’t act in such a way that Allah ﷻ can give it to us. We are not grateful for the gifts. We do not use what He has given us. Prophet ﷺ also said that whoever serves Allah ﷻ with Ikhlas for 40 days — this is where the matter of withdrawal and khulwat comes from, in the tariqat — Allah ﷻ will cause a fountain of wisdom to arise from his heart. 40 days with Ikhlas, only Allah ﷻ, then something completely different will happen in your heart. Your heart is completely in the hands of Allah ﷻ, He can do whatever He wants with it… Big, small, more knowledge, less knowledge, joy, suffering, Kufr, Iman — He can do whatever He wants with your heart. And we think we achieve everything through our struggle in dunia, instead of asking Allah ﷻ, instead of connecting with our Creator, instead of loving our Creator. Only look at Him, whenever you have any problem, straight „Ya Allah!“ — isn’t it? May Allah forgive me, inshallah, and bless you!
